The Government attaches importance to Occupy Central’s potential impact and is preparing its response to the drive, Chief Executive CY Leung says, adding Police would act against people taking part in the "unlawful" campaign.
Speaking at a Legislative Council question and answer session today, Mr Leung repeated the Government’s commitment to implementing universal suffrage in 2017.
He said the Government will carry out constitutional reform according to the Basic Law and the National People’s Congress decisions and interpretations, and not be pressured into acting otherwise even though some people are threatening to occupy Central in protest.
He hoped there would be strong public opposition to make those who planned to illegally 'paralyse' Central change their minds.
