The Hong Kong Police Force ensures a safe and stable society by upholding the rule of law, maintaining law and order, preventing and detecting crime, and safeguarding and protecting life and property.
Chief Executive Donald Tsang says the Government will not slack off in its fight against drugs, despite a 20% drop in the number of drug abusers aged below 21 in the first half of this year.
Speaking at the 2010 Fight Crime Conference today, Mr Tsang said both the Government and the community attach great importance to drug problems.
Although the Government's efforts in beating drugs have started to deliver results, it will not slack off and will continue to allocate money to anti-drug programmes.
Praising law-enforcement officers' professionalism in maintaining law and order in Hong Kong, Mr Tsang said the city's crime rate continued to stay at a low level.
Chief Secretary Henry Tang said Hong Kong's crime situation for the year's first 10 months remained stable, with overall crime dropping 3.2%.
Domestic violence cases also fell 22.6%, he said, adding Police will continue to work with other professional bodies to tackle the issue and provide comprehensive support to victims and their families.
In response to the surge in pickpocketing cases, Police will bolster publicity work and step up inspections in high-risk areas.
Mr Tang said Police will also enhance staff training and intelligence-exchange work to improve officers' capability to combat technology crime.
