The Hong Kong Police Force ensures a safe and stable society by upholding the rule of law, maintaining law and order, preventing and detecting crime, and safeguarding and protecting life and property.
Police officers issued 277 fixed-penalty tickets and 10 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day crackdown on Hong Kong Island, in which 172 officers were sent to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites.
They issued 199 tickets for illegal parking and 78 for other traffic offences, and cautioned 10 pedestrians and 78 drivers for committing minor traffic offences. They also handed out road-safety leaflets.
A total of 1,971 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to August this year - and 52.7% were attributed to pedestrian negligence.
