Co-location arrangements for the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link will provide convenience to Hong Kong residents, Mainland visitors and overseas tourists.
Secretary for Transport & Housing Frank Chan made the statement to the media today, saying it is easier for elderly, children and family visitors to complete clearance procedures of Hong Kong and Mainland authorities in a single location at the West Kowloon terminus.
"We are talking about forging an agreement with our counterparts in the Mainland to ensure a smooth and enjoyable transit through the immigration, customs and quarantine [procedures]. The so-called designated area is to enable an enjoyable process for the passengers to go through various stages of clearance."
Mr Chan said the Government understands the public's political concern, adding the arrangements will comply with the Basic Law and the "one country, two systems" principle.
