The Housing Department will cease bottled water distribution in public estates found with excess lead in drinking water by the end of this year.
The decision was reached as the last temporary water points in the affected estates were put in use yesterday, and all water filter installation works have been completed.
Tenants in these estates are now able to gain access to safe drinking water through water filters and the temporary water points.
The exact date for stopping bottled water distribution will be announced later, taking into account factors such as the festive season and holidays.
As at December 3 the department had distributed 8.5 million bottles of water, costing $51 million.
