Water samples collected from five public housing estates have passed safety checks, meeting the World Health Organisation’s standard for lead content.
Director of Housing Stanley Ying announced the latest test results at a press briefing today, noting the five estates are Sau Mau Ping South Estate, Upper Wong Tai Sin Estate, Yau Lai Estate, Shek Mun Estate Phase I, and Lam Tin Estate.
Mr Ying said the Housing Authority's tendering committee will defer the decision on two tenders in which some of the participating contractors were involved in the estates with water that exceeds the lead limit. It will wait for more information to become available in September, such as investigation reports, test results of water samples from public housing estates, and the contractors' report.
Hospital Authority Quality & Safety Director Dr Derrick Au said eight children have been found to have lead levels in their blood higher than the international standard. They will be sent for developmental checks.
