The Government will review mooncake safety standards after Macau authorities found excessive levels of aflatoxins in some samples of the Mid-Autumn Festival treat.
Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man told the media today the Codex international food code does not prescribe a standard for certain food categories like mooncakes, so each jurisdiction will conduct its own risk assessment and come up with a level of control.
Hong Kong will step up surveillance and testing of food, and review its standard concerning the amount of aflatoxins in mooncakes, he said.
