Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says citizens who have travelled to Korea and suspect they may have caught the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome virus should go straight to a public hospital to limit the risk of cross-infection.
Dr Ko told reporters this afternoon those who develop a fever or respiratory symptoms and consult private doctors will be referred to public hospitals for medical tests.
He added that those who have not travelled to Korea but develop minor symptoms can consult their community doctors.
The Government is seeking expert advice on a possible fourth-generation case in Korea, which he said was of "particular concern".
In a related development, the Centre for Health Protection reported today another suspected case has tested negative for the MERS virus.
