The Centre for Food Safety today urged people not to consume two kinds of chilled food products from Taiwan as they were made with substandard lard, while traders should also stop supplying them and recall the products.
One of the products, Fish & Cheese Stuffing Balls, sold in 3kg packs, is manufactured by Champion Refrigerant Foods and imported by Sun Wing Hing Food Products. Its sell-by date is May 20, 2016.
The other tainted product, Cheese Fish Bun, also in 3kg packs, is manufactured by Champion Refrigerant Foods and imported by Sam Long International. Its expiry date is April 25, 2016.
Food safety officials were informed by Taiwanese authorities today that the products were made with substandard lard produced by Cheng I Food, and about 5,400kg of the affected products were exported to Hong Kong.
The centre has learned from the importers concerned that they have stopped selling the products and have started recalling them. It will also alert the food trade and ensure the affected products have not entered the local market through other channels.
