Acting Secretary for Food & Health Prof Sophia Chan says the Government has preliminarily chosen a site in Fu Tei Au for holding imported poultry awaiting bird flu test results.
Speaking to the media today, Prof Chan said the Government expects to take four months to work out the details, including site formation and sewage treatment works.
On compensation arrangements, she said the law specifies a $30 maximum per bird, adding the Government will seek Legislative Council approval of payments for affected traders on February 21.
On the live chicken import suspension, she said the Government will continue talking with traders to provide help and support, and will not rule out the possibility of ex-gratia payments.
