The Centre for Health Protection was notified today of a human H7N9 case affecting a woman aged 51 who lives in Foshan.
She developed symptoms on December 31 and was admitted to a local hospital on January 3. She is now in critical condition.
She slaughtered a chicken at home on December 31.
Guangdong health authorities have put her 21 close contacts under medical surveillance. No symptoms have been found among them so far.
On the case reported by Guangdong yesterday, affecting a 31-year-old Shenzhen man, his close contacts in Hong Kong have tested negative for the virus.
The centre will follow up the issue with Mainland health authorities.
