CE urges H7N9 vigilance

December 03, 2013
Chief Executive CY Leung has urged the public to maintain good hygiene and avoid contact with live poultry, as the Government steps up disease monitoring and control measures in the wake of Hong Kong's first confirmed case of H7N9.

Speaking to the media before attending an Executive Council meeting today, he urged the public to see a doctor if they develop influenza symptoms.

He said the probe into the case so far suggests it is an imported one.

The Government has escalated its influenza response level to 'serious', and the Centre for Health Protection is tracing the infection source.

Infection control measures are being bolstered at hospitals, live chicken stalls in markets, and boundary checkpoints, he added.
