HK ready for H7 virus: CE

Chief Executive CY Leung says Hong Kong is in a high state of preparedness for the H7N9 virus.
He made the statement today after visiting the Infectious Disease Centre at Princess Margaret Hospital and the Centre for Health Protection to inspect their preventative measures against the virus.
Mr Leung said prevention and treatment are important, and the Centre for Health Protection and Infectious Disease Centre will complement each other in preventing and fighting the disease.
He said medical staff are on high alert for two viruses – H7N9 and the Novel Coronavirus - and thanked them for their hard work.
He was briefed on their work, which he said will help him better co-ordinate various departments' work.
He reiterated the importance of prevention measures at four levels - personal, local, Mainland and global - and urged people to pay attention to personal hygiene.
Mr Leung said the Secretary for Education and officials from the Food & Health Bureau will visit schools tomorrow, to remind them to look after children’s personal hygiene.
There have been 31 reported cases of human infection so far in the eastern Mainland, including nine deaths.
Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said the Government will be vigilant in handling reported cases, using the rapid test method.
All 12 cases reported in Hong Kong as of last night, including previously suspected cases, have tested negative for H7N9.
Dr Ko and Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So have held talks with the tourism sector on promoting health risk management, and advised them to do more to educate travellers on health risks.
