Woman negative for H7
April 08, 2013
A 58-year-old woman with respiratory symptoms has tested negative for the H7 virus in a preliminary test.
The Centre for Health Protection said today she visited Shanghai and Jiangsu from March 31 to April 5. She fell ill on April 3 and was admitted to Tseung Kwan O Hospital and isolated.
She is in stable condition.
She visited a wet market with poultry stores during her stay in Shanghai.
Her family contacts are asymptomatic so far.
Travellers, especially those returning from Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with fever or respiratory symptoms are urged to wear facial masks immediately, seek medical attention, and reveal their travel history to doctors. Healthcare professionals should also pay special attention to those who might have contact with birds or poultry in the affected areas.
People should avoid direct contact with poultry and birds, thoroughly cook poultry and eggs, and ensure good personal hygiene.
The centre will, from tomorrow, provide the media with a daily update on the number of suspected human cases of Influenza A (H7) notified to it.
