April 05, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection has been informed two confirmed human cases of Influenza A (H7N9) in Jiangsu.
The National Health & Family Planning Commission notified the centre tonight that the cases involved a 61-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man.
They tested positive for H7N9.
The Jiangsu Province Department of Health said there were no epidemiological links among the two cases. So far, the 65 close contacts of the two patients show no symptoms.
Travellers from Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, with fever or respiratory symptoms, are advised to wear facial masks and reveal their travel history to doctors.
Healthcare professionals should watch for people from the four regions who might have had contact with birds and poultry.
