2 more H7N9 cases confirmed
April 04, 2013
The Centre for Health Protection has been informed of two more confirmed human cases of Influenza A (H7N9), in Shanghai and Zhejiang.
The National Health & Family Planning Commission notified the centre today that the cases involved two men, aged 48 and 63. The former, from Shanghai, was a poultry worker, who died yesterday. The Zhejiang man died today. They tested positive for H7N9.
The Zhejiang Department of Health said no epidemiological links were identified in the two cases. So far, the 63 close contacts of the two patients are normal.
The centre will heighten its vigilance and continue to maintain stringent port health measures in connection with this development. It has advised travellers from Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang with respiratory symptoms to wear masks and seek medical attention and reveal their travel histories to doctors.
It also asked healthcare professionals to watch for travellers from the four regions who might have had contact with birds or poultry.
