Steps mooted to ensure formula supply
January 30, 2013
The Government is considering measures, including strengthening law-enforcement action against parallel-trading activities, to ensure the adequate supply of infant formula in Hong Kong, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says.
Speaking to the media after a radio programme today, Dr Ko said there are continued concerns about the supply of infant formula in Hong Kong, in particular, problems at the retail level due to parallel trading activities, adding the situation is unsatisfactory.
“We will also strengthen sanctions against unscrupulous retailers. Most importantly, we will consider strengthening the function of the current hotlines and distribution mechanism provided by the suppliers.
“I would not exclude any Government actions in the co-ordination works. We would hopefully come up with a set of new arrangements in two or three days,” Dr Ko said.
