Youth services to grow
October 12, 2011
More youth outreach teams will be formed in Tseung Kwan O, Ma On Shan and Tung Chung to deal with the growing problem of juvenile gangs.
Giving his 2011-12 Policy Address today, Chief Executive Donald Tsang said additional teams will reach more at-risk youths, counsel them and refer them to other mainstream services.
Meanwhile, Mr Tsang said the Government will support plans by some non-government organisations to build youth hostels to help working youths have their own living space. Apart from providing youth services, they want to use part of the land granted to them by the Government for “Government, Institution or Community” use for the hostels.
He added, the plan allowing NGOs to offer about 3,000 temporary work places to young people, due to end in March, will be extended for another year.
