Columbarium to open mid-2012
May 25, 2011
A new public columbarium on Kiu Tau Road, Wo Hop Shek, will provide 41,000 niches and a garden of remembrance when construction ends in the middle of next year, Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow says.
He told legislators today the Chinese Permanent Cemeteries management board expects to provide 50,000 niches in the next three years.
The Government has so far identified 24 potential sites for more niches. Technical feasibility studies are being conducted to assess whether these will be suitable for columbarium development.
Dr Chow said District Councils will be consulted before the sites are confirmed for development.
