Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department is responsible for the secure, orderly and efficient production and marketing of agricultural and fishery produce; enforcing regulations on plants, pesticides and animal controls; and conserving our natural environment and safeguarding the ecological integrity.
Secretary for Food & Health Dr York Chow launched his two-day visit to Guangzhou today, meeting ministerial counterparts and touring the Asian Games equestrian competition venue.
He inspected the "equine disease-free zone" in Conghua City, and the medical facilities for horses competing in the games, the first international equestrian event hosted by the Mainland.
The Food & Health Bureau and the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection & Quarantine have signed a collaboration agreement on equine inspection and quarantine for equestrian events. They will work on creating a disease-free zone, veterinary services, horse transportation, stables and competition venues.
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department will give technical support and training to Mainland authorities. Department officers are also helping in the care of horses competing in the games.
Dr Chow will meet officials from the Guangdong Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau tomorrow, and the provincial Department of Health. He will visit the Guang Dong Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and other medical facilities in Guangzhou before returning to Hong Kong.
