The Government will move the Copyright (Amendment) Bill to the end of a list of bills to be scrutinised by the Legislative Council after lawmakers failed to pass it before the deadline.
Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So made the announcement after LegCo failed to complete scrutinising the bill during a two-and-half-day session that ended at 1pm today.
He noted that it is the Government's responsibility to table the legislation in the best interest of the people, adding that some of its provisions were amended following the opinions expressed during the public consultation.
Mr So said all the proper procedures had been followed, but some pan-democrats' last-minute amendments had upset the balance struck during the consultation.
The commerce chief thanked his team for their support and hard work on the bill, adding that "their excellent job had been spoilt" by the pan-democrats.
