Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So met with Canada's Minister of International Trade Chrystia Freeland in Manila today.
They discussed ways to strengthen economic and trade co-operation between Hong Kong and Canada, and promote and encourage the development of creative industry and start-ups.
Mr So is attending the 27th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministerial Meeting.
He attended the dedicated session of trade ministers on APEC's support for the multilateral trading system and the 10th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organisation.
He also participated in the ministerial meeting plenary session to share Hong Kong's experience of investing in human capital and innovation with other APEC member economies.
Mr So met with Indonesian Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong and thanked the Indonesian Government for its agreement to set up a Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Jakarta. This new office would help to strengthen ties between the two sides.
He also met with Thai Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn, noting that the Hong Kong-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement would boost economic and trade relations between Hong Kong and Thailand, and hoped that Thailand would continue to support its smooth negotiation.
Mr So will return to Hong Kong tonight.
