IP manager scheme launched

May 21, 2015

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So has launched the Intellectual Property Manager Scheme to help companies boost their IP manpower capacity to grasp the opportunities brought by IP trading.

Speaking at the launch ceremony today, Mr So said the Intellectual Property Department scheme can nurture and attract IP management talent, build up a professional community and provide a cluster effect for enhancing IP trade development in the long run.

The scheme encourages enterprises to appoint a staff member at managerial level as their in-house IP manager, who will be responsible for overseeing the compliance, management, exploitation and commercialisation of IP assets.

The department will provide training and resources for IP managers to conduct their duties within their enterprises. The first two-day training programme will be held on June 29 and July 6 at the Convention & Exhibition Centre.

With the support of the Law Society, the department has introduced a free IP consultation service. A dedicated website has also been launched to disseminate IP trading information and resources.
