The Hong Kong Observatory launched the "Announcement on Localised Heavy Rain" service today.
The announcement is based on the amount of recorded regional rainfall, alerting people of potential flooding due to heavy rain in specific districts and warning them to take precautions.
It will be issued when rainfall of 70mm or more is recorded in an hour in a district.
People will be informed of the announcement via radio, television, the observatory's website and the "MyObservatory" mobile app.
The "Special Announcement on Flooding in the northern New Territories" will continue to apply to the northern part of the New Territories, whereas the "Announcement on Localised Heavy Rain" will be applicable to other areas.
