Expedited bridge appeal urged
May 17, 2011
Secretary for the Environment Edward Yau says the Government is requesting an expedited hearing of its appeal against the Court of First Instance judgment in a judicial review on environmental impact reports on the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
He said the judgment will have a grave and far-reaching impact on the way environmental assessments are conducted.
He said while the Government needs a clarification from the court on how to implement the judgment, it must also discuss with project proponents on how to meet the additional requirements.
Mr Yau reiterated the current Environmental Impact Assessment is a very comprehensive, transparent and objective process, providing clear guidelines to the Government as a regulator, and project proponents.
