Mainland personnel working in the Hong Kong Section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link will only be able carry out duties in an enclosed area of West Kowloon Station.
Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung made the statement to the media today, saying Mainland personnel will not be able to venture outside the Mainland Port Area of West Kowloon Station at will.
Mr Cheung said Mainland personnel will also not be able to stay overnight in Hong Kong, adding they must take the train back to Shenzhen every day after work.
He said, with these measures in the co-location arrangements for the high-speed rail, the public will have no cause to worry about cross-boundary law enforcement by Mainland authorities.
Asked whether the Central Government has imposed the co-location plan on Hong Kong, he said it has only complied with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's request to implement the arrangements.
Mr Cheung added he has briefed all foreign consulates and chambers of commerce as well as District Councils on the plan and received positive responses from them.
