LegCo issue to be lawfully handled
(July 18, 2017)
Chief Executive Carrie Lam says the Government will follow up on the disqualification of four legislators in accordance with the law.
She made the statement while speaking to the media before today's Executive Council meeting.
Asked if the Government will be lenient in pursuing the legal fees incurred and dealing with the salaries already received by the four disqualified legislators, Mrs Lam said while the court requires them to pay the legal costs, it is not up to her to decide on the salary matter.
"Everything will be done in accordance with the law and in accordance with my purview and jurisdiction.
"I have absolutely no right in determining the changes to the Rules of Procedures of the Legislative Council or asking the Legislative Council members to repay the Legislative Council their salaries and operating expenses."
The Government has yet to decide whether one or two rounds of by-elections will be held due to legal proceedings, she added.
