Hong Kong has been exercising the principles of a high degree of autonomy and 'Hong Kong people administering Hong Kong' in accordance with the Basic Law since its return to the Motherland.
This demonstrates the successful implementation of the 'one country, two systems' principle, which is widely recognised.
The Government made the statement today in response to media enquiries on comments by Taiwan authorities concerning Hong Kong's Legislative Council.
Taiwan authorities should not interfere in Hong Kong's internal affairs, the statement added.
