Yuen Long flat plan unchanged

The Government's target to build 17,000 public housing units in its Yuen Long development plan remains unchanged, Chief Executive CY Leung says, refuting claims of co-operation with triads.
 
Speaking ahead of today's Executive Council meeting, Mr Leung said building 4,000 units in phase one of the development was based on the idea of "resolving the simple issues before the difficult ones".
 
He rejected claims the Government compromised or co-operated with triads on the issue, adding it will not forsake the remaining 13,000 units.
 
Mr Leung said there is no co-operation between the Government, business interests, indigenous villagers and triads over the land or other New Territories issues.
 
The Government does not co-operate or compromise with triads, he said, adding Police have taken stringent enforcement action against triad-related offences in the New Territories recently.
 
Mr Leung called on residents there to report illegal activities to Police.
