The four main contractors of the housing estates affected by the lead in water issue will contribute $20 million to subsidise the water tariffs of the 29,000 affected households.
Chief Secretary Carrie Lam told reporters today the incident has caused much inconvenience to the residents and there have been requests for concessions.
The Government has considered the requests and feels it is not appropriate for it to offer water tariff or rent concessions, she said. However, the contractors have offered the tariff concession, irrespective of the question of responsibility.
Under the offer, each affected unit will receive a $660 subsidy to be used within three years.
Thirty non-residential units will also benefit from the move.
