Judicial reviews delayed works: CE

October 27, 2015

Chief Executive CY Leung says the Government places great importance on improving the city's transport infrastructure, but many projects have been delayed due to legal challenges.

Speaking ahead of an Executive Council meeting this morning, Mr Leung said a series of projects have been planned to enhance the city's transport network, including the third airport runway, the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point bridge and seven new rail projects under the Railway Development Strategy.

Referencing last week's Kap Shui Mun Bridge barge incident which caused traffic disruption to Lantau Island, Mr Leung said completion of an alternative road from Tuen Mun to the airport was delayed by a year due to a judicial review against the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge project.

The lengthy process of seeking funding in the Legislative Council is also a reason for the delays, he added.
