Economy, livelihood prioritised

June 19, 2015

The Government will rearrange the items to be discussed at next week's Legislative Council Finance Committee meeting, to address economic and livelihood issues first.

Chief Executive CY Leung told reporters today the Government must move on with economic and livelihood issues now that LegCo members had vetoed its constitutional development proposal.

The Government will put 11 initiatives before the Finance Committee on June 26, including the relief measures in the Budget, the enhancement of the remuneration package for District Council members, the construction of rehabilitation centres and a residential care home, the civil service pay adjustments, the establishment of a recycling fund, and a $1.5 billion increase in commitment for SME funds.

The application for funds to establish the Innovation & Technology Bureau will follow these items.

He said the measures will improve people’s livelihood and propel economic growth.

He called on lawmakers to respond positively and take care of economic and livelihood issues.

He also hopes this new approach will help build a new relationship with LegCo members.
