Welcome mat:  Chief Executive CY Leung (right) meets US Congressman Matt Salmon at the Chief Executive's Office.

Chief Executive CY Leung met a US congressional delegation led by Congressman Matt Salmon at the Chief Executive's Office today.

Mr Leung said Hong Kong has been maintaining close economic and trade ties with the US and that leveraging on the advantages under the "one country, two systems" arrangement, Hong Kong can act as the "super-connector" between the US to markets both on the Mainland and across Asia.

He encouraged more US companies to invest in Hong Kong, and hopes both sides continue their frequent exchanges and co-operation on all fronts.

Mr Leung and the delegation also exchanged views on Hong Kong's constitutional development.

He reiterated that the Government's proposals for selecting the Chief Executive by universal suffrage strictly comply with the Basic Law and National People's Congress Standing Committee decisions.

The Government will continue to seek support from the public and lawmakers for the plan so 5 million eligible voters can select the next Chief Executive by universal suffrage through "one person, one vote" in 2017, he added.
