Secretary for Justice Rimsky Yuen said any suggestion that Hong Kong should be independent would not be consistent with its status as a Special Administrative Region of China, nor with its interests.
Mr Yuen told reporters today that the Government would monitor closely actions or movements which advocate Hong Kong's independence. It would take enforcement action if there was any illegal act.
On a press report that the Government is actively considering enacting an anti-secession law, Mr Yuen said he had not heard about such a plan.
