Chief Executive CY Leung has called on legislators not to resort to filibustering tactics during their scrutiny of today's 2015-16 Budget.
He said filibustering the proposals will hinder their intended benefits to the public.
He said the Budget reaffirms the current-term Government's agenda, which is to boost the economy to improve people's livelihood.
Economic growth and the financial surplus has allowed the Government to propose relief measures for the community, he said, adding revenue from profits tax this financial year is 15.8% higher than the original estimate, showing higher business profits. As such, he urged employers to share their prosperity by improving staff pay.
He reminded the public to be cautious over the Mainland's economic slowdown and the uncertainty in economies worldwide.
The Government will try to achieve sustainable economic development by making good use of Hong Kong's unique role as the super-connector between the Mainland and the globe, and increase employment opportunities and upward mobility for young people, he added.
