The Government says it has no specific stance on the Chief Executive selection method.
It made the statement today in response to media enquiries on whether the National People's Congress Standing Committee will clarify whether "civic nomination" was in conformity with the Basic Law.
It said it has no specific stance on the method for selecting the Chief Executive by universal suffrage in 2017, adding it is inappropriate to speculate on the committee's decision on the matter.
It said the Report on the Public Consultation on the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 & for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016 truthfully summarises views received during the consultation period, which have been submitted to the Central Government.
The Chief Executive, in his report to the committee, has also included the views of the community on constitutional development expressed after the consultation period, it added.
