Gov’t open-minded on reform
(February 12, 2014)
The Government will continue to listen to different views on constitutional reform with an open, inclusive and pragmatic mind, and will not judge or comment on specific proposals, Secretary for Constitutional & Mainland Affairs Raymond Tam says.In a written reply to a lawmaker’s query today, Mr Tam said the three-member Task Force on Constitutional Development and other appointed officials have attended forums and seminars and visited district councils to hear views on political reform since the consultation was launched in December.
He said the Government would continue communicating with people from different sectors throughout the consultation period, to extensively listen to peoples' views, and will summarise and consolidate these into a report for the National People's Congress Standing Committee. The report, to be made by the Chief Executive, will formally begin the first step of the five-step process of constitutional development, he added.
