NPCSC officials’ comments useful: CE

(December 07, 2013)

Chief Executive CY Leung says NPCSC officials’ comments included in constitutional reform consultation documents are useful for people’s reference, as their views should not be ignored.

Briefing reporters today in Zhuhai, Mr Leung said Hong Kong should not ignore these views; otherwise, a proposal may be passed by a two-thirds majority in the Legislative Council, and approved by the Chief Executive, but not accepted by the Central Government.

He said the consultation is open, and that is why the Government has not made any proposals. The framework of the Basic Law and National People’s Congress Standing Committee interpretations and decisions, as well as the views of people who have authoritative understanding of the Basic Law set out in the consultation document, are useful for reference, he said.

Mr Leung said to love the country and love Hong Kong is a basic requirement for politicians and the Chief Executive. People could continue discussions on the definition of 'love the country', but heads of governments and public officers around the world are required to love their country, he added.
