The Electoral Affairs Commission today launched a public consultation seeking views on the new set of guidelines for 2012 Chief Executive election.
Commission Chairman Barnabas Fung opened the consultation today, saying it will run until October 24. The election is set for March 25.
The proposed guidelines are based on the existing guidelines for chief executive elections, with changes to the voting system and the expense limit.
When there are two validly nominated candidates at the close of nominations, or two remain after the elimination of all other candidates, voting must be conducted.
When there is only one candidate, they will be elected if they obtain more than 600 votes.
The election will be terminated if no candidate obtains more than 600 valid votes.
The election expense limit has been revised to $13m.
