Chief Executive Donald Tsang attended the flag-raising ceremony on Victoria Harbour this morning, and the National Day reception in celebration of the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
Speaking at the reception in the Convention & Exhibition Centre, Mr Tsang said Hong Kong will support the Mainland’s steady development.
As Europe and the US might fall back into recession, he said the Mainland has become the focus of the world’s attention, adding his recent visit to Europe made him realise the centre of global power has shifted to Asia.
He said Vice Premier Li Keqiang visited Hong Kong and announced a series of new measures to further enhance Hong Kong-Mainland co-operation, and the city has a more important role to play in the country’s 12th Five-Year Plan.
On his final Policy Address, Mr Tsang said it will provide practical measures to address issues like housing, the wealth gap and the ageing population.
