Wang urges unity to face economic challenges
June 13, 2011
Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Wang Guangya has urged Hong Kong people to unite to face the challenges ahead.
Speaking at a luncheon with members of various sectors of the community today, Mr Wang said economic development in Hong Kong is affected by many unstable elements, including external fluctuations, internal inflation and asset bubbles.
To strengthen Hong Kong’s competitiveness, he said the community needs to unite and consolidate for the long-term interest of the city and support government policies.
Speaking on competition from the rapid development in other cities in the region, he said Hong Kong will never be marginalised as it has the backing of the Mainland. He encouraged Hong Kong to use its unique advantage as a financial, trade and maritime centre to play a greater role in the opportunities of the National 12th Five-Year Plan and gain a deeper footing in the international arena.
At the same function, Chief Executive Donald Tsang said Hong Kong is committed to contributing to the National 12th Five-Year Plan for greater development.
