March 15, 2022

Chief Executive Carrie Lam today expressed her deep sorrow over the passing of Chiang Chen.

She said Mr Chiang was a pioneer in Hong Kong’s industrial development, with distinguished achievements made in the machinery and industrial arena, and a leading role in the trade.

Mrs Lam added that he made remarkable contributions to Hong Kong’s economic development and was one of the first patriotic businessmen to invest and set up businesses in the Mainland after the country's reform and opening up.

He was a philanthropist and also an educator, the Chief Executive said.

He established a charity foundation in the earlier years to foster talent training and industrial research, nurturing tens of thousands of experts in industrial technology and management for the nation.

He was awarded the Grand Bauhinia Medal in 2005.

"I am saddened by the passing of Mr Chiang. On behalf of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family," Mrs Lam noted.

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Edward Yau also expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Mr Chiang.

Mr Yau noted that Mr Chiang’s contributions to the city's industrial development were outstanding and he was held in high regard in the sector.

“He had established the Chiang Chen Industrial Charity Foundation to promote education of talents and training of industrial leaders, which made him a role model for the industrial and commercial sectors,” Mr Yau added.
