Edward Yau makes voting appeal

December 7, 2021

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Edward Yau today wrote to about 400 trade and industrial organisations in Hong Kong to call on business leaders to lead by example and vote in the Legislative Council General Election.

In his letter to district trade and industrial organisations, government-funded/statutory organisations as well as associations formed by small and medium-sized enterprises, Mr Yau appealed to them to motivate their members to actively participate in the election and make flexible work arrangements to enable their staff to vote on the polling day on December 19.

“As the first LegCo election after improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the election is of great significance.”

Citing Hong Kong & Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Director and National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Vice-Chairman Xia Baolong’s remarks yesterday, Mr Yau noted the election embodies broad representation, political inclusiveness, balanced participation and fair competition.

“As electors of the Hong Kong SAR, each and every one of us should fulfil our civic duty and elect members to represent our constituencies.”

The Hong Kong SAR Government hopes to work together with the new-term LegCo members to promote policies and initiatives to enhance economic development and improve livelihoods, with a view to building a better future for Hong Kong, he added.
