With its strong research capability, Hong Kong will have a role to play in crucial national research projects as the 14th Five-Year Plan is set to proceed at full steam.

Permanent Secretary for Innovation & Technology Annie Choi made the remarks today when she was asked at a briefing held after a government-held talk on the national development blueprint about what role Hong Kong scientists could play in key national research projects.

“Hong Kong has a very strong research capability. We have five universities that are within the top 100 in the world. We have top researchers, scientists, so in all the national research projects, etc, I am sure there would be ways for us to contribute and to participate.

“In these different areas, we will discuss with different bureaus and see how we can contribute.”

The Government is drawing up the strategy for innovation and technology development in Hong Kong and will make reference to the contents relating to the city in the 14th Five-Year Plan, Ms Choi added.
