Edward Yau briefs entertainment reps
Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Edward Yau today briefed representatives from the broadcasting, film, music and performing arts sectors on the amended Annex I and Annex II to the Basic Law approved by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.
At the meeting, Mr Yau stressed the necessity and urgency of improving the electoral system and highlighted its importance in creating a stable business environment and ensuring Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
He also called on attendees to fully support the amendments.
By improving the electoral system, the excessive politicisation in society and the internal rifts that have torn Hong Kong apart can be effectively mitigated, thereby enhancing the city's governance capability, Mr Yau said.
Hong Kong can then focus on addressing economic and livelihood issues, and developing the economy to achieve long-term prosperity and stability by leveraging its unique advantages and the central authorities’ staunch support, he added.
