Household survey launched
The Census & Statistics Department will launch a new round of the Household Expenditure Survey in mid-September.
The information collected on the expenditure patterns of households in Hong Kong will be used for updating the expenditure weights of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) series.
About 13,000 living quarters throughout the city have been randomly selected for participation in the survey.
The survey, to be conducted for one year, is broken down into 26 cycles with each cycle lasting for two weeks.
About three weeks before each survey cycle starts, letters will be sent to the sampled living quarters to invite the households to take part. Letters for the first survey cycle will be sent early next week.
The survey results will be available around mid-2021 and will be used to update the expenditure weights of the CPIs.
