An exhibition depicting the daring Christmas day escape by a one-legged Chinese admiral escorted by British intelligence officers and sailors in 1941 will be held at the Museum of Coastal Defence.
The Escape From Hong Kong - the Road to Waichow exhibition features escapees' personal written accounts, maps, photographs, medals, uniforms and other mementoes displayed for the first time.
There is the bullet which hit Chan Chak in the wrist during the escape, and a working model of the MT-B07 - the flotilla which helped hinder Japanese forces from crossing Victoria Harbour during their Hong Kong invasion, and sail the escape party.
There will also be a series of audio recordings telling the escape story read out by the descendants of those who took part, and a short video documentary featuring interviews with Hong Kong Escape Re-enactment Organisation members.
Opening tomorrow, the exhibition will run for the next two years and is jointly presented by the re-enactment organisation and the Leisure & Cultural Services Department. Admission is $10. Click here or call 2569 1500 for more information.
