$2m in smuggled ginseng seized
*
Hong Kong Police

Marine Police have seized 1,800kgs of smuggled American ginseng worth $2 million, off Starling Inlet, Sha Tau Kok.

At about 2.30am yesterday, a few unlit speedboats were found travelling at high speed towards the Mainland. Police gave chase but the boats fled in different directions. Officers then located one that had been abandoned.

Thirty-six cartons of ginseng were found aboard and the boat was brought back to Marine North Division Base.

The case has been classified as "attempting to export unmanifested cargo" and handed to the Customs & Excise Department.
