The Sha Tin District Council has so far allocated $15.55 million to the district minor works programme, with 41 projects slated for this financial year, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing says.
The projects include improvement and beautification works of Leisure & Cultural Services Department facilities, enhancement of facilities in Home Affairs Department community halls, and construction of rain shelters, village roads, sitting-out areas, basketball courts and pebble paths.
Inspecting the progress of projects in the district today, Mr Tsang said the Government has been carrying out minor works projects across the territory to improve community facilities and create employment opportunities.
During his visit to the Stone Park in Sha Kok Estate, he learned the council allocated $215,000 last year to install fitness equipment for seniors and build additional entrances to the park. The project is targeted for completion in March.
Mr Tsang visited the cooked food stalls in Sha Kok Estate and toured the Hin Keng Neighbourhood Community Centre in Tai Wai. Through council funding, the centre's facilities have been enhanced with the provision of audio-visual equipment.
