Hospital rejects blunder claims

*
Hospital Authority

Prince of Wales Hospital has refuted reports of medication and clinical management errors in its treatment of two patients with a serious and rare oncology disease.

It clarified today the patients are stable. Due to their serious condition and the unsatisfactory result of past treatment, the hospital and the Chinese University Department of Clinical Oncology adopted an augmented treatment protocol developed in the US. As the treatment involved certain risks the hospital explained the potential complications to the patients and obtained their consent.

After receiving the treatment one patient is making good progress. The patient has no neurological problem and is not paralysed, as reported in a newspaper today. However, the other patient has had no improvement in symptoms.

The treatment protocol's applicability and suitability is being reviewed.
